Tarnacki gives recommendations for how employees can express their feelings and continue to thrive in the workplace. From a managerial perspective, she suggests creating a culture and workplace that acknowledges employees’ feelings and offers a sense of comfort.

She also highlights the importance of communication, possibly reprioritizing projects at work, and advising employees they may need to say ‘no for now’ which is an important skill to help with this challenging time.

“Reprioritize. That is a better approach than simply reallocating all the work previously performed by the larger team,” Tarnacki says, “learning to say ‘no for now’ is an important skill to help employees through the emotional transition happening to team members.”
